Mayabander

Welcome to Mayabander

Mayabunder is a low-key resort with fewer tourist attractions than other nearby islands. It is located in the northern section of the Middle Andaman, approximately 242 miles from Port Blair. Due to the influx of former criminals, Karen, a Burmese hill tribe, and settlers from Bangladesh and east Pakistan during the British colonial era, this area is well-known for its peculiar culture.

Despite being the administrative center of the North and Middle Andaman Islands, Mayabunder is a tiny town with no tourism facilities. Since most locals do not understand English, the only way to get information if you do not speak Hindi or Bengali is usually to ask the hotel staff.

Mangroves encircle the shore, and the beaches here are less well-liked than those on other islands. Karmatang beach is a stunning place with shallow waters and a lengthy stretch of grey volcanic sand.

The isolated islands nearby may be worth a visit if you intend to remain for a while because they provide fantastic snorkeling chances and a glimpse into the bush. Overall, Mayabunder is not a popular choice for travelers. Travelers seeking an experience away from the throng and in close proximity to nature will find it appealing.

  1. Karmatang Beach: Karmatang Beach is regarded as Mayabunder's best and most attractive beach. This beach is almost twenty kilometers away from Mayabunder. This beach, with its glistening white sand and crystal-clear seas, is thought to be a turtle nesting ground by the Olive Ridley and Andaman Green turtles.

This beach is perfect for relaxing on a relaxed day and taking in some peace and quiet, or for picnics. The forest department has provided eco-shades, eco-furniture, and tree huts for the beachgoers. Near the shore, there is a large region covered in coconut plantations, which adds to the area's spectacular scenery. You can see turtles nesting here if you visit this beach in December through February.

2. Avis Island:

The little, stunning island of Avis is located roughly 20 minutes' boat ride from the Mayabunder jetty. This island's abundance of coconut plantations adds to its beauty. You can see this island from the harbor in Mayabunder. This island features a modest beach where visitors can spend some time, surrounded by calm waters. With proper authorization, private boats can be rented from Mayabunder. It is not open to tourists and is deserted. A special permit from the forest department is required in order to visit this island for a day.
